Safety for Airsoft

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

First, I would like to say that the amount of bad things that arise from airsoft guns are incredibly low (less than 1%), proportionally to the entertainment derived from the use of the product. I am a firm believer in not ruining something for good people just because of malicious activity from the bad.

Now, I’ll come right out and say it; if you are not careful with an airsoft gun, somebody could get hurt. We’ve all heard of kids getting shot by cops because they were not careful enough. Some people use airsoft guns to rob stores and threaten people. You might be wondering why an airsoft vendor would point out the negative aspects of the product.

The amount of injuries that come from airsoft is much lower than it was twenty years ago. In fact, the injury rate is less than that of golf! Still, people still get hurt. Most injuries are face related, and that is why it is important to always wear a face mask when playing airsoft. A cup wouldn’t hurt either; it’s not necessary, but it would spare you a lot of pain.

Another thing people sometimes forget is that airsoft guns are not toys. You need to treat an airsoft gun as a real gun, except when playing airsoft, of course. Never shoot somebody if you are not playing airsoft. Some people think it’s okay because it only stings for a second, but not only can being careless lead to a serious injury, but it is just plain mean to shoot someone if they are not ready.

True story: The first time I took my friend paintballing (surprisingly, I play paintball more than airsoft), he acted like an idiot. We were walking to the field, and he shot me in the foot. It didn’t hurt, so I wasn’t mad, but then he really angered me. He shot me in the back, and I started to yell at him, and he shot me again! I started to run, and he kept shooting, and I kept getting hit. In that second, I had an incredible hate toward him, incredible. My friend thought of the paintball gun as a toy. After the incident, well, let’s just say he’ll never shoot me unexpectedly again. However, one time during a battle, he did shoot himself in the hand accidentally, which halted the game for about ten minutes. What’s the point of this? Accidents can happen.

Nutrition guides teach you healthy eating habits

Eating a healthy diet is often easier said than done. We all make the occasional stop at the fast food place for a quick meal and most of us don’t get the proper amount of fruits and veggies for good nutrition. When you aren’t informed of the true value of a good diet, it’s easy to make excuses for our occasional - or frequent - indulgences in fatty, high cholesterol choices. Nutrition guides are one way to educate yourself and gain an understanding of why a good diet is essential to a long and healthy life. When you do realize the possible consequences of poor dietary habits, you’ll find yourself spending more time planning menus that maximize the nutrients you need. Let’s take a look at how to choose a good nutrition guide that gives you the information you need.

There are plenty of so-called nutrition guides on the bookshop shelves. Some contain only an overview of the food groups and the vitamins and minerals contained in a handful of foods. This type of nutrition guide may be useful in teaching kids how vitamins and minerals play a role in preventing colds, strengthening bones and building strong muscles. This is helpful information, but only on a superficial level.

To gain a detailed understanding of how vitamins and minerals work in concert, the nutritional content of hundreds of specific foods and how you might include extra amounts of these foods to combat a variety of diseases, you need the full-blown reference type of nutrition guide.

Typically, the first section of a complete nutrition guide devotes several pages to each nutrient, explaining the function of each and the other nutrient dependencies. For example, calcium, magnesium and zinc must be supplied in precise ratios in order to optimize absorption. Discussions of each nutrient also give recommendations on supplemental doses, when you may want to consider supplements and why. Vegans will learn how to combine proteins in their meals for adequate nutrient intake. Heart patients will learn how certain foods can lower cholesterol and the value of adequate vitamin E intake.

Some nutrition guides also describe the benefits of herbs in the diet, as well as recommended herbal supplements for various conditions.

A good guide also contains a lengthy section of tables, giving detailed nutritional data on hundreds of foods. Besides vitamin and mineral content, you’ll find the amounts of carbohydrates, fiber content, trace minerals and the like, along with serving sizes and data covering both fresh and cooked foods. This type of information is invaluable to people with special dietary needs. For example, diabetics need to restrict their intake of carbohydrates. A good nutrition guide allows you to plan tasty menus within their guidelines.

If you want to improve your diet, invest in the reference type of guide. Once you start reading, you’ll be amazed at what you learn. When you’re finished, you’ll plan your meals like an expert.

Love Letters

Love letters that immortalize the love of your life

For centuries, lovers have been writing love letters. Indeed, there are many collections of love letters, written by famous, infamous and celebrity persons which are treasured by generations of family members. Alternatively, and perhaps unromantically, these collections are offered up to the highest bidder at auction through such stellar houses as Sotheby’s, for unspeakable sums of money. This being the case, it’s easy to see that you, too, might well pen your romantic thoughts to the love of your life. If you are a writer, poet or even artistically inclined, you’re lucky. However, if you don’t feel your talents are up to the task, you can still use this vehicle of romance to mend an argument or declare your undying love.

Although it may never have crossed your mind, you’ll find lots of help online. There are a number of options you might exercise, depending on your own abilities in crafting love letters.

There are sites run by writers who specialize in ghost writing epistles of love. Some conduct a brief email interview, or have you fill out a questionnaire of sorts, to give them the bones of your situation and what you hope to convey and accomplish. You are buying their words, to be used by you in whatever manner you wish. This can be an ideal way to impress your true love.

Other sites are more like idea banks, with articles that coach you on how to construct a love letter to address any given situation. You’ll find rules governing such writings, letting you know which sort of sentiments won’t fly.

For example, if you’ve just met the love of your life, you must remember that the feelings you have may not be reciprocal. In this case, you might not want to declare your undying love and bare your soul. You could be rejected, and then, rather immediately, live to regret the venture. There are some off-the-wall ideas in circulation, such as writing a love letter anonymously, telling the object of your desires that you’ve been following them and observing their lovable habits and places they frequent. This might well be construed as stalking.

Better ideas include consulting sites with databases of quotes. You type in keywords falling into your general concept and click the search button. You’ll see plenty of results in which those keywords appear, written by poets and novelists of some fame. Such quotes can serve as the basis of your love letter. You start off with the quote and then apply your own words below. This can work well if you’re not a writer. The fact that you took the trouble to research an eloquent quote which expresses your feelings on the subject may make your own words, lacking similar eloquence, but filled with sincerity, highly endearing to your love.

Both women and men are love letter fans. Women love highly romantic writings, whereas men enjoy a slightly lighter touch. True love is everlasting.

Costume Jewelry

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Those that own pricy pieces of jewelry may not think they have a use for costume jewelry, but there are always times when these are the better choice. If you have ever lost a costly piece of jewelry, you probably know how painful that can be. You may wonder if anyone is going to realize you are not wearing the real thing on occasion when they know that you usually are, but that is not much of a worry these days. Jewelry that is not made of real diamonds and other materials is so nice these days that it can be hard to tell the difference without an up close and in-depth inspection.

When you buy costume jewelry, you can go for the five or ten dollar pieces, but they are not going to be made very well. When you have the need to find something that looks amazing, you want to spend a bit more. If you have the cash for the real pieces, this should not be too much of a problem for you. You may not find exact copies of your jewelry items, but you can find things that are very close. Costume jewelry is made better than ever before. This is not only about the materials, but about the workmanship as well.

You may be wondering when it would be a good idea to wear the costume jewelry as apposed to the real thing. Think about times when you may be in a situation where it would be very easy to damage something or lose it entirely. If you love going out to clubs, that might not be the best time to wear a real diamond necklace. Someone could snag it the wrong way and it is broken and lost immediately. If you are going on a boat, one false move could send your non costume jewelry right down to the bottom, never to be seen again.

You are usually safe when you wear your real diamond engagement ring, as far as loss anyway, but you do have to think about keeping it in good condition. If you are doing something that may cause damage, you may want to have a costume jewelry replica to wear on those occasions. Some will just take theirs off and put it away, but others don’t want to be seen without it. Digging in the dirt, going camping or hiking, or even going to the beach can be bad for your pricy ring. Those are some of the best times to leave the real thing at home and to put on the beautiful but inexpensive ring that looks just as good as the real thing.

Planting a Small Garden

Monday, July 28th, 2008

You may be dreaming of having a beautiful garden, but when space is a problem, you may put those dreams aside. You don’t have to do that if you don’t want to. A small garden can be a beautiful addition to your home or property, even when you don’t think you have that much space with which to work. What is even better is that there are quite a few ways you can do this. You can have flowers or vegetables, or you can even have a small herb garden if you love to cook with fresh herbs a lot.

You don’t need much space to have a great vegetable garden. This type of small garden needs to be well planned out, but you can get some things out of it. Think about the vegetables that you use the most, and then decide how much room you need for each plant. Tomato plants can spread out in a small garden, but with the right type of trussing, they can grow up instead of out. That leaves room in your tiny garden for a few of these, and perhaps a few other types of veggies that you want to include. Use your space wisely and you will be surprised about what you can fit in there.

When it comes to flowers, you can use a small plot for your small garden and still have something that offers you beauty and serenity. As with the vegetable garden, you have to think about making the most of your space with this type of small garden. Even a plot that is only five by five feet can be magnificent. You may have to put a lot of thought into it, and you can get some great ideas by looking online or asking at your local garden center. Find out about combining colors and height without taking up too much space.

When you don’t have even a five by five space for your small garden, you have to think about things like window boxes that can give you a bit of nature when you don’t have a yard with which to work. You can only have a few plants, but you can make this box beautiful. You can use this for flowers and herbs, but it might not work with vegetables. You may even find a way to have a small garden of herbs that can grow inside to give you the fresh taste for your food that you love.
